Why you need to be on a detox diet all the time

The human body is a remarkable machine - it is entirely self-maintaining (beyond nutrition and basic cleanliness ;)
Yet, no matter what our state of health, there are things we can do to become healthier.
Some of the things we put in our bodies are beneficial to us. Some are poisonous (toxic). And further toxins are byproducts of natural bodily processes.

The two main effects of toxins are:
1) To impair our health. Any internal organs effected might work less efficiency or even stop temporarily. Some toxins even scramble signals in our neurology.
2) Activate our body's defences. We both process toxins to make them less harmful and excrete them in the usual ways!

Of course, the less healthy we are, the less ability we have to deal with toxins. This vicious circle, if not interrupted, would generally lead to us developing a "cold" and being forced to rest while the body recovers. Many of us have experienced recovering from a cold to a level of health far better than what we are used to - that is our natural state of health.

As for what we can do to reduce our toxicity level, aside from belief work, the two main approaches are taking in fewer toxins and producing less/processing them faster.

Reduce intake of toxins

In the first category, the main factor is our diet. Most people would be heathier by reducing the number of toxins in their diet than eating more nutritious food. Both are important but the toxin angle has been neglected. In the last five years, detox diets (eating only fresh food, minimal cooking) have been the latest fad. Anyone who has tried them will know (as with all diets) they only work as long as you stick to them.

The other factors in this first category include smoking and airborne pollutants.

More efficient bodily processes

In the second category, we have various organs and systems designed to deal with toxins. These include the immune system and the kidneys and liver.

There's a vast number of ways to utilise these systems better. Most involve relaxation and/or meridian work.

Meridians are lines that run throughout our bodies that have a large influence over the way it works. There is no physical evidence of these lines. But they are a fundamental basis of time-tested disciplines such as acupuncture, shiatsu, Tai Chi and many Chinese martial arts.  Exercise and massage helps.

Despite my initial skepticism, I find that meridians work exactly as described in Energy Medicine by Donna Eden. Meridian work is now the 3rd most important determinant of my health, even more so than diet.

Both are only slightly less significant than either psychological changes I might make and Zero Balancing.
Even if the toxins have been processed they must be excreted through the obvious mechanisms (apart from through urine which makes drinking it only slightly less crazy). Often the first step in recovering from illness is evacuating your bowels!

One of the most important class of toxins - free radicals.
